Kyoto Animation continues to be impressive in making this school festival probably one of the liveliest of festivals ever created. The rich artwork, the music – nearly everything about this episode is ringing “spectacular.” I think is also helps that we get four different perspectives on the festival, each with their own little adventure on what is going on from their point of view. Major props to Kyoto on that part.
One might as well call this episode “The Melancholy of Okeki Houtarou.” With Houtarou in an even more depressed state than his usual self, one cannot but feel sorry for him.
Tomorrow’s the big day. It’s almost time for the festival to begin. Eru prays at the shrine for a safe three days for the event. Mayaka cannot seem to sleep, for she is very excited as well. Satoshi is too busy planning out what he is going to do for the day. As for Houtarou, he…doesn’t do much except taking one look at the Kanya festival homepage online before turning it off and going to bed. That’s about as productive as Houtarou can get.
Nazo no Kanojo X follows the life of Tsubaki Akira as he somehow finds himself in a relationship with a mysterious transfer student by the name of Urabe Mikoto via tasting her drool one day after school. Sankarea follows the eyes of Furuya Chihiro, who has a very strong zombie fetish. Not only is his room infested with zombie-related items, but Chihiro would go so far as to only date zombie girls. Logically thinking, such a thing would be completely impossible, as zombies do not exist in this world. Yet, what happens when a family pet dies and Chihiro somehow uncovers a resurrection manual in his closet? Naturally, Chihiro would want to revive it, even if it was against human nature to do so, but what happens when a random girl he meets at an abandoned bowling alley also wishes to due and revive as something else. Thus goes the rather unusual relationship between a boy who loves zombies and a girl who indirectly wishes to become one.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san follows the eyes of Yasaka Mahiro as his regular, ordinary life is flipped upside-down when monsters appear to take out his life, only to be saved by the Mythos of Lovecraft, Nyarlathotep, also known as Nyaruko. With Cthugha’s Kuuko and Hastur’s Hasuta, will there ever come a time for Mahiro to relive his normal, peaceful life as it was before?
